Crisis of Faith
May 2012

Many evangelists who send out newsletters enjoy trying to preach in their publications.
Gilda and I have always just used this newsletter to simply share with those who follow
our minis-try about what is going on and what we are doing and feeling at the time. But I
will share a thought with those who like to be “preached at.” Recently I have been talking
with people about their struggles with faith. They have become discouraged be-cause
they have been Christians a long time and they are presently going through a crisis of
doubt and feel their faith is weakening and their walk with God is not what it used to be.
First, let me tell you that a faith crisis is not anything new or unexpected. If I had the space,
I could quote hundreds of scriptures that deal with doubt and wavering faith from the
prophets, apostles and Jesus himself. In reality if you are not having struggles with doubt
and faith, then you are probably so blind to yourself that evil does not even need to bother
with you. Al-ways remember that God never leaves you nor forsakes you. Sometimes it is
difficult to sense the presence of God. Working through your doubts and faith struggles,
you will come out stronger on the other side and ready to deal with the next issues that
will come into your life. Do I have these struggles? Of course. However, I can assure you
that at this stage in life I am more at peace with God than ever because of my struggles,
but I also will warn you that they never stop because if they do then faith in God is not
needed.

May God bless you abundantly as you seek to grow in His grace. Do not listen to false
preachers and teachers who tell you if you have the right kind of faith everything will be
great and the problems and doubts will go away. They are liars, and we have been
warned about them.

Future and Finances
May 2012

First, I want to thank everyone who gave to our minis-try in 2011. We were able to make
our budget and we had a great year. Many people ask us if we are ever going to retire. I
am 67 and Gilda will be 65 in April, so we have certainly reached what is called retirement
age. Yet, I feel good and we still get requests to do some revivals. After 35 years in
evangelism most of the people we worked with in the past have retired or died. We do at
least 1 mission project a year and are considering doing at least 2 this year. We are not
working as much, but we feel we are strong and healthy enough to keep on going for a
while longer. It does not take as much for us to operate because now I can draw Social
Security and get some help with Medicare. This allows us to give away more to support
projects that need our help. We want to build a home each year for the poor in Honduras,
for example. As long as we have the re-sources to keep working through the support of
our friends like you, then we will continue this ministry until something prevents us from
doing so. If we lose our health or support or if there are no more opportunities to serve,
then we will know it is time to stop. Until that occurs we plan to keep on serving to the
glory of God. I think we both would enjoy full retirement, but we have never found a
scripture that says that option is available to those who serve the Lord.
